Confirmed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with The Boring Company, the initiative introduces an advanced underground transport network designed to redefine connectivity across central Dubai.

The Dubai Loop Tunnel Project is an underground transportation system built around a network of narrow, high-efficiency tunnels engineered using advanced tunnelling technology. Unlike traditional metro systems that require wide tunnel diameters and extensive surface disruption, the Dubai Loop Tunnel Project utilizes compact 3.6-meter tunnels designed for faster excavation and cost-effective delivery.

The core objective of the Dubai Loop Tunnel Project is to create seamless connectivity between high-traffic commercial, residential, and tourism districts while minimizing disruption to existing infrastructure.

By adopting next-generation tunnel engineering methods, the Dubai Loop Tunnel Project significantly reduces capital expenditure compared to conventional metro tunnel systems, making it one of the most cost-efficient transport innovations in the region.

The first stage of the Dubai Loop Tunnel Project will introduce a 6.4-kilometer pilot loop featuring four strategically located stations. This initial corridor will connect:

Following the pilot launch, the Dubai Loop Tunnel Project will expand into a broader 22.2–24 kilometer underground network incorporating 19 stations across central Dubai.

The Dubai Loop Tunnel Project was officially declared by Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE.

According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, the agreement with The Boring Company was signed approximately ten months prior to the public confirmation, with execution timelines aligned to Dubai’s broader smart mobility framework.
